The semester came to a very stressful end for me on Tuesday. Over the weekend, I started feeling bad, running a fever, and just being generally nauseous. Because of this, I wasn’t able study fully for our finals on Tuesday. I managed to get a day of studying in before taking the test, which I was thankful for. I didn’t do as well as I had hoped, which I was not exactly happy about, but it could have been worse. I also found out at the end of this that it is possible to delay an exam due to illness, which will not help me now, but I will be sure to remember for the future. It is behind me now so I am moving on to next semester. December is always an exciting time for me. I normally do lots of travelling and see all of my friends that I don’t normally get to see. This was no different for this year, so far. A few weeks ago, my brother told me he bought a new puppy for his girlfriend and was going to have to have it shipped from Maine to North Carolina. After I learned that it was going to cost over $1000, I volunteered to fly to Maine and drive it back. I have been trying to visit all 50 states by the time I finish medical school. On Wednesday night, I flew to Portland, Maine. I picked up the puppy at 5am the next morning and drove for the next 16 hours to Raleigh, North Carolina. After I dropped the puppy off, I drove 8 hours today to my girlfriend’s house in Nashville. It was a very memorable trip that I will never be doing again. I got to drive through New York City and cross off 6 new states though.

 Service Hours this month: 1 Total Service Hours: 1 March was a very eventful month for me. I started off the month by experiencing my first Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It was nothing like I expected it to be. It was a lot more family friendly that I was expecting. I had a few friends in town and we watched all the parades from a street corner on St. Charles. We also went to our first Tulane baseball game. Baseball was a huge part of my undergraduate experience, and I was happy to be able to go to a game here. I have also made plans to volunteer with Hogs for the Cause this weekend. It is a large barbecue festival that is also a fundraiser for pediatric cancer research. It is very similar to the volunteering I did in undergrad. I spent over 100 hours volunteering with different fundraising events for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. February Blog

 This month, we focused on pain medications and reproductive medications mainly. I thought it was extremely interesting to learn about most of the reproductive lessons because that is not something that I really had much experience with before. I really had not realized how much of a decision-making process there is when women are choosing what birth control to go on. I talked to my girlfriend at the end of the module, and she was able to educate me more about the stress that goes into figuring out which pill is right for you as well as the early age some women start them for other reasons.  Mardi Gras season has really been kicked into high gear lately and it has been a lot of fun watching the city really come to life with celebration. It is my first Mardi Gras season in New Orleans, and it is unlike anything I expected. So far, my favorite parade has been Krewe Du Vieux.
